Introduction:
NS-90Z Plus nanoparticle size and potential analyzer is a new product developed by Nanbei Instrument after successfully introducing Malvern Panalytical's nanoparticle characterization technology. It further optimizes the optical electronic measurement technology and analytical performance based on the previous generation NS-90Z. NS-90Z Plus has more superior particle size and potential analysis functions, and can meet the particle size and Zeta potential testing needs of a large number of users in nanomaterial, formulation development and production.
NS-90Z Plus nanoparticle size and potential analyzer uses dynamic light scattering technology to measure the particle size of particles and granules, electrophoretic light scattering technology to determine the particle Zeta potential and potential distribution, and static light scattering technology to determine the molecular weight of proteins and polymers. NS-90Z Plus integrates Malvern Panalytical's M3-PALS fast and slow field mixed phase detection analysis technology in constant flow mode, which improves the instrument's potential analysis performance, upgrades the compatible microcapillary sample cell (optional) function, and significantly improves the concentration and particle size range of analyzable samples.

Dynamic Light Scattering Technology
NS-90Z Plus nanoparticle size and potential analyzer uses the classic 90° angle dynamic light scattering (DLS) technology to measure the particle and granule size. This technology uses a photodetector to measure the scattered light intensity fluctuation signal generated by the Brownian motion of particles in the sample, and calculates the correlation function (Correlation Function) through a digital correlator to analyze the diffusion rate of the particles, and then calculates the particle size and distribution of the particles using the Stokes-Einstein equation. The particle size measured by this technology is the hydrodynamic equivalent diameter, which is calculated by the equivalent diameter of a hard sphere with the same diffusion rate. Dynamic light scattering is also called Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (PCS).

Electrophoretic Light Scattering Technology
NS-90Z Plus uses electrophoretic light scattering (ELS) technology to measure the Zeta potential of the particle slip layer. Particles move electrophoretically under the action of an artificially applied electric field, and their electrophoretic movement rate is directly related to the Zeta potential, which is described by the Henry equation. NS-90Z Plus uses the fast and slow field mixed laser Doppler phase analysis method (Mixed mode measurement, phase analysis light scattering/M3-PALS) in constant current mode to successfully solve the impact of capillary electroosmosis on the test, and obtain the Zeta potential average value and potential distribution curve in one test. Electrophoretic light scattering technology can measure the Zeta potential of samples with a maximum particle size of about 100μm (depending on the sample properties and preparation).

Static Light Scattering Technology
NS-90Z Plus nanoparticle size and potential analyzer uses static light scattering (SLS) technology to non-invasively characterize the molar mass, i.e. molecular weight, of particles such as protein monomers, aggregates or polymers in solutions and colloids. In the description of the Debye method for molecular weight calculation, the intensity of scattered light generated by the particles is proportional to the square of the weight-average molecular weight and the particle concentration. By using the Debye method to measure the static scattered light intensity of a set of samples with a concentration gradient, the molecular weight of proteins and polymers can be calculated. Unlike dynamic light scattering technology, static light scattering technology measures the average intensity of scattered light over a period of time. The unit of molecular weight is Da (Dalton) or g/mol.

NS-90Z Plus nanoparticle size and potential analyzer integrates three optical principle technologies: electrophoretic light scattering, dynamic light scattering, and static light scattering in one compact instrument. Through optimized optical design, fiber optic transmission design, and high-performance light source, signal acquisition and processing hardware, the scattered light signal recognition capability is improved and stray light interference is reduced, ensuring high accuracy, sensitivity, and reproducibility of the instrument test results, and expanding the range of suitable sample tests.
Easy-to-use, maintenance-free system design
NS-90Z Plus adopts a closed optical path design to prevent contamination, and the main unit does not require maintenance during daily use. It uses a replaceable variety of optional cuvette sample pools, which are easy to use and can prepare multiple samples at the same time for sequential testing, which is more efficient. The sample pool can also be cleaned and reused, without the need for complex instrument or detection device maintenance.
Gas laser light source with high optical performance, stability and long life
Imported high-stability He-Ne gas laser is used to ensure data reproducibility, with a wavelength of 632.8nm and a power of 4mW. The beam divergence angle, monochromaticity, temperature and voltage fluctuation stability, and coherence of He-Ne gas lasers are far superior to semiconductor solid lasers. The gas laser tube used in NS-90Z Plus adopts a hard packaging process to ensure that the inert working material of helium-neon gas in the laser tube is not lost for life. The life of the laser tube reaches more than 10 years, and its optical quality hardly changes during its life cycle, ensuring that the test data is always reliable and no user calibration is required. Because the coherence performance of He-Ne gas lasers is significantly better than that of semiconductor solid lasers, only lower power is required to generate scattered light signals that meet measurement requirements, and lower stray light noise makes sample analysis more sensitive. The instrument can adaptively adjust the laser intensity through an attenuator within a dynamic range of 330000:1.
Reports can be customized with multiple parameters
NS-90Z Plus has complete nanoparticle size and Zeta potential analysis functions. It can output parameters such as Z average diameter, polydispersity index PI, peak particle size and content of each particle size distribution peak, and can also output volume and number distribution (using full-range Mie Theory calculation). It can output parameters such as Zeta potential and potential distribution.
High-performance detector
Use high quantum efficiency (QE) avalanche photodiode (APD) detector, QE ≥ 80% @ 632.8nm, with much higher sensitivity than photomultiplier tube (PMT) and lower noise. High-cost high-quality APD components ensure excellent test performance of the instrument.
Research-grade digital correlator
Using high-speed digital correlator, more than 4000 channels, 1011 dynamic linear range, the shortest sampling time interval can be as low as 25ns, combined with advanced correlation algorithm, the shortest sub-measurement time can be shortened to 1.68s.
Precise internal temperature control system
The independent Peltier cycle temperature control device can be set arbitrarily within the range of 0-120ºC, with fast heating and cooling speeds, and the control accuracy can reach up to 0.1ºC, ensuring high reproducibility of test results.
M3-PALS fast and slow field mixed phase detection technology in constant current mode
In addition to eliminating the influence of electroosmosis, NS-90Z Plus integrates Malvern's M3-PALS technology. The newly upgraded constant current mode also makes it possible to test samples with higher conductivity. The constant current mode can effectively alleviate the influence of electrode polarization. Together with the switchable high-frequency and low-frequency mixed analysis mode, the results are more reproducible, more accurate, and information on potential distribution can be obtained. Compared with the previous generation of products, the NS-90Z Plus can meet the Zeta potential and electrophoretic mobility tests of samples with higher conductivity, and can also increase the number of times the potential sample cell can be used.
